Medical Center for Children

Okayama University Hospital established an in-hospital organization, the “Medical Center for Childrenr”, in September 2012 to provide advanced and comprehensive pediatric medical care.
Child health and development care must be practiced with interdisciplinary divisions, together with subspeciality pediatrics and pediatric surgery, as well as mental health care. The Center safely provides innovating medical technology to children as “the last bastion for pediatric medical care.”

Management System

Susumu Kanazawa (Director of Hospital) presides over the Center as Director. Hirokazu Tsukahara (Professor in Pediatrics), and Takuo Noda (Professor in Pediatric Surgery) serve respectively as the Vice-director and the doctor in charge of management.

Management Policy

The constituent clinical divisions of Pediatrics (Hirokazu Tsukahara, Director), Pediatric Surgery (Takuo Noda, Director)), Pediatric Neurology (Katsuhiro Kobayashi, Director), Pediatric Cardiology (Shinichi Ohtsuki, Director), Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (Hirokazu Tsukahara, Acting Director), Pediatric Dentistry (Michiyo Nakano, Director), Pediatric Anesthesiology (Tatsuo Iwasaki, Director), and Pediatric Radiology (Takayoshi Shinya, Director) undertake the management, further development and closer connection with clinical divisions that are indispensable for sophisticated pediatric medical care, such as Anesthesiology and Resuscitology, Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Palliative, and Supportive Medicine. Further enhancing cooperation and collaboration with every department of the hospital, we offer sophisticated and specialized pediatric medicine to serious ill children and those with refractory disease. We also set up a “Child Mental Health and Development Unit” and a “Child Clinical Genetics Unit.” Collaborating with hospitals and clinics in the community, we aggressively take care of children all across the Chugoku-Shikoku region. As the base pediatric medical center in Chugoku-Shikoku district, we strive to provide practicing comprehensive care for critically ill children and their families, and to be an excellent post-graduate pediatric medical educational center.
