The Department of Infectious Diseases targets all infections caused by microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses(except for hepatitis), providing diagnosis and treatment for infectious diseases in various organs.

Treatment system

Consultation related to infections for outpatients is provided once a week and for inpatients as needed .

The department accurate ly diagnoses various infectious diseases and provides appropriate antimicrobial therapy to prevent bacteria and fungi from developing resistance.

Scope of target diseases

Septicemia, respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, lung abcess, emphysema, and bronchitis, urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis, hepatobiliary infections such as liver abscess and cholecystitis, gastrointestinal infections, food poisoning, systemic viral infections, and mycosis .

  • Designated HIV center hospital: our department provides medical care as an HIV center hospital in Okayama Prefecture.
  • Diagnosis of anti microbial resistant mechanisms: examination of antimicrobial resistant genes is conducted to use results for appropriate treatment of various infections.

Main methods for testing and assessment

Cultivation tests of bacteria and fungi, specific antigen and antibody tests, molecular identification tests, and detection of antimicrobial resistant genes.
