Treatment system

The Department of Oral Diagnosis and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology support all of the dentistry divisions at Okayama University Hospital. Across local network, patients from medical institutions are also referred to us.

Treatment policy

We do our best to make our patients’ radiology experience as comfortable as possible. We strive to make comprehensive diagnosis from the perspective of both radiologist and diagnostician. In radiation therapy, we aim at conservative treatment using brachytherapy for oral cancers. We are committed to treating patients with compassion.

Specialties

The Department of Oral Diagnosis and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology provides:
A full suite of exams including x-rays, MRI, CT, and ultrasound for all diseases in the oral and maxillofacial area
Brachytherapy as highly conservative radiotherapy for oral cancers
Every scan in the oral and maxillofacial area (except periapical radiography) is interpreted by a radiologist. Our radiologists and technologists are experienced specialists in the oral and maxillofacial area.

Scope of Target diseases

The department of oral diagnosis and Dentomaxillofacial radiology support all of the dentistry divisions at okayama university hospital.
Trauma, inflammation, congenital abnormality, tumor, cyst, diseases of the salivary gland, temporomandibular joint diseases, and oral mucosal diseases.

Main methods for examination and explanation

X-ray examinations:we perform intraoral and extraoral radiography such as panoramic and periapical radiography for diseases in the oral and maxillofacial area. We also conduct cephalography for orthodontic treatments. We pay attention to minimizing radiation exposure without giving up image quality. We work hard to minimize your waiting time.
Specialized imaging:we use MRI, cone-beam CT (dental CT), CT and ultrasonography (US) to conduct diagnoses.
MRI examinations:we perform and interpret the MRI scan of the temporomandibular joint disorder (disc displacement) and other diseases (cyst, tumor, and osteomyelitis) . In cancer cases, we perform dynamic MRI in characterizing them for the purposes of planning treatment. MRI examinations require appointments in advance. To make an MRI appointment, we need an order from your doctor.
Cone-beam CT (dental CT):we perform cone-beam CT to provide higher-definition images for local surgeries (i.e. implant-operation, cyst-ectomy and the extraction of a wisdom tooth etc.) . The procedures will not take a long time, no advance appointment is required.
