Treatment system

As a training institute approved by Japanese Society of Periodontology and by Japanese Society of Conservative Dentistry, we maintain and provide a highly professional dental care according to individual patients’ pathological conditions and backgrounds. Therefore, an appointment is necessary for outpatient clinic services.
After establishment of stable periodontal condition, we strongly recommend our patients to be introduced to registered specialists for periodontics such as JSP Board-Certified Periodontist and JSP Periodontist in our SPT (supportive periodontal therapy) network.

Treatment policy

Goal

Contribution from oral health to systemic health

Policy

To remove infection focus and restore mouth functions by intensive treatments and to continue supportive periodontal therapy (including maintenance) so that oral functions after treatment can be maintained for a long time

Point to be noted

The duration of periodontal therapy, due to a lifestyle-related disease, must be conducted over a long period, in years, sometimes for your entire life.

Point to be considered

We provide treatment based on informed consent after you are satisfied with the treatment policy and the plan informed by your dentist in charge.

Specialties

Control of biofilm infection in oral cavity (especially periodontal and endodontic lesions) and reduction of chronic inflammation to recover periodontal tissue to be functional.

  • Treatment of periodontal diseases, endodontic lesions (root canal therapy), and treatment of dental caries (tooth decay)
  • Periodontal surgical procedure (surgical removal of infection focus and regenerative therapy of periodontal tissue)
  • Periodontal plastic surgery (aesthetic improvement of the gums and alveolar mucosa)
  • Endodontic surgical procedure (teeth conservation by surgical removal of an infection focus)
  • Oral infection management for the patients with organ transplantation and cancer therapy (immunodeficiency state), and diabetes

Scope of Target diseases

We provide treatment for inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions developing on teeth, pulp tissues, and periodontal tissues: dental caries, periapical periodontitis, gingival overgrowth, and periodontal diseases. Especially for periodontal diseases, we use the following diagnoses and treatments:

  • Gingivitis (plaque- and non-plaque-induced gingivitis, gingival overgrowth)
  • Chronic periodontitis (including systemic-condition-related periodontitis, smoking-related periodontitis)
  • Aggressive periodontitis (which rapidly destroys periodontal tissues in early life; used to be called as early-onset periodontitis)
  • Periodontitis associated with inherited diseases (familial periodic neutropenia, Down syndrome, and Papillon-Lefevre syndrome, etc.)
  • Necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis and gingivitis

Highly advanced/special medical treatments

Techniques covered by health insurance programs

  • Treatment of periodontal diseases: especially, periodontal surgery procedures (including regenerative therapy of periodontal tissues using fibroblast growth factor(FGF-2), plastic surgery of soft tissues such as the gums)
  • Supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) network in cooperation with regional dentists JSP Board-Certified Periodontist and JSP Periodontist
  • Endodontic treatment: pulp conservation treatment (including non-invasive indirect pulp capping)
  • Infected root canal treatment (including endodontic surgical procedure, intentional re-implantation of tooth)
  • Periodontal surgical procedures by hospitalization (in cooperation with other departments; when management of underlying diseases or extensive surgery is necessary.)
  • Other common conservative dental treatments

Techniques conducted as clinical research

  • Oral infection tests
Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody test and DNA detection test of periodontopathic bacteria (to be applied not only as periodontal pathological test for patients with periodontal diseases, but also as a degree of oral bacterial infection under organ transplantation or cancer treatment)
  • Periodontal tissue regenerative therapy using autologous bone with platelet-rich plasma

Techniques performed as peridontal therapy at a patient’s own expense

  • Periodontal tissue plastic surgery conducted before or after dental implant treatments
  • Crown lengthning
  • Connective tissue graft

Main methods for testing and explanation

  • Tests to ascertain conditions of periodontal tissues (common tests): Information is collected from patient interviews, periodontal tissue examination, X-ray examination, oral photography, and study model for diagnosis.
  • Periodontopathic bacteria tests (DNA amplification by realtime PCR method): Relative amount of the DNA specific to periodontopathic bacteria in a periodontal pocket is measured.
  • Serum IgG antibody titer against periodontopathic bacteria: IgG titer specific to periodontopathic bacteria as a results of biological reactions is measured.
